About
The Giant Golden Radio is a collaborative effort requiring the combined talents of two individuals, separated by hundreds of miles, but clinging to the West Coast as if their lives depended on it. Indeed, they might.
John Beaulaurier
Born and raised in Seattle proper along the calming shores of the Puget Sound, John once foolishly attempted to flee his birthplace, but soon found himself regretting this youthful flight. Embracing early found nerd-dom, he spent four years with his nose in some engineering textbooks at the University of Michigan. While in the throes of undergrad, John got involved with the university radio station, WCBN. He found playing music for a handful of strangers in the middle of the night strangely satisfying. His enjoyment of curating soundtracks to fit one’s life became a hobby, which eventually became a podcast. The Giant Golden Radio’s first edition dropped March 8, 2006. Today you can catch John scooting around South Lake Union or disappearing wordlessly onto the Western Washington wilderness only to walk into a Capital Hill bar days later, fully bearded, and mumble, “Been fly fishing.” But no matter his activity, you can assume his ear buds are close at hand, streaming something he’s overly excited about. GGR has been his journey, an annotated musical journal of John. And personal though they are, it’s sharing them that makes them so damn satisfying.Lauren Fukano
A native of Seattle’s Beacon Hill, Lauren wrapped high school and headed north to attend Western Washington University. Quickly realizing that she disliked living in close proximity to British Columbian border towns, she returned to Seattle. Once home she styled hair for two years, and eventually went on to finish a BA at the University of Washington. Newly graduated, she stopped briefly in Portland to pick up her soon-to-be roommate and coffees in hand, they pushed down the coast to San Francisco. Lauren spent her first year in The Bay Area bewitched by the region’s fresh and eclectic music scene. Around the same time, she spent many late evenings with an old friend’s newly launched podcast spilling from her laptop. Today, Lauren holds down a 9 to 5 that affords her such luxuries as a pad in the city and occasional trips out of it. She recently began a Post Baccalaureate program in writing, and writes for a small independent music magazine when she has time. She is enjoying her gig as the GGR Intern, where she is currently petitioning for an exclusive GGR Dance Party Episode.
